Bmx bikes and Mt bikes are pretty much doing the same tricks. Mt bikes have come a long way over the last few years, jumping and stunts are now normal on the huge bikes. The new riders are very skilled and can perform the wildest tricks on either the bmx or mt bikes. It just really depends on what you want to ride.
Iv done bmx racing for 4 years now and i like it, if I were you i would do Bmx.Mountian biking is fun , but my opinion is bmx is better. Go to ABAbmx.com
its my life
BMX bikes are a small more nimble and simpler to bail off of if the need arises, but the larger wheels on a mtb give you a lot more usefulness and the ability to generate a lot more speed, plus the full suspension bikes enable you to place a real beating on it and yourself.
If you have decent bmx skills, you will be able to translate them to a mtb with a small time, once you get used to the different geometry/sizing, and you can do nearly whatever thing on a mtb you can do on a bmx bike, even if riding a halfpipe may be a small wild. Plus you can cover a lot more impose a curfew exploring cool spots when you have multiple gears!
I really recommend it.
I would go one step further and get a roadbike!
But then over again perhaps I’m a small biased.
.
The best and greatest mt. bikers started on BMX ( deliberate it a challenging go )—-HELL, who can stop you bro? What I do suggest is you mind the 5 DVD set of the ‘Red Bull Rampage Retrospective’ ( you can find it in http://www.amazon.com on the DVD section)—and you’ll know what mt. biking is all about! Certainly not for the roadies!
I reflect all of us Bikers started on a 20 Inch. Just go out and ride and have fun.
